Guest Speaker Bio Boston Police Commissioner Edward F. DavisEdward F. Davis is the 40th Police Commissioner of the City of Boston. He was sworn in by Mayor Thomas M. Menino on December 4, 2006. Prior to becoming Commissioner of the Boston Police Department, Davis was a 28 year veteran of the Lowell Police Department. He rose through the ranks holding a variety of positions including Captain in charge of Community Policing and Commander of a combined Federal, State and Local Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit. He was appointed Superintendent of Police in 1994, with responsibility for providing police services to the fourth largest city in the Commonwealth. During Superintendent Davis' tenure the crime rate in Lowell dropped dramatically. Lowell built a successful economic development plan on a foundation of public safety. Commissioner Davis is the Treasurer of the Police Executive Research Forum in Washington DC and a founding member of the Massachusetts Major City Chiefs Association. Superintendent Davis was the recipient of the prestigious NIJ Pickett Fellowship and attended the John F. Kennedy School of Government's Program for Senior Government Executives at Harvard University. Superintendent Davis holds a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College. |
